Showing your inner Techie by ~BohemianElectricity:iconBohemianElectricity:

Do you think you are a techie, or are you really a techie? Doesn't make sense, but that's not the point. These steps are designed to help you decide that confusing decision. Remember, if you are experiencing 7 or more of these steps, you must be a techie.

Step 1. You might be in your first play, and want it to finish so you can truely be called a techie. To be a techie, you must get through your first play. (Something I have done, and it seems easy.)

Step 2. You get hiped up and exciting when you find out when the performance dates are and begin telling everyone and anyone who will listen that they need to come even though it's a month and a half away.

Step 3. Something you can't help, but the tech director is trusting you with their keys. (Being to unlock things, like doors.......duh) And if she can't trust someone else, she makes you go with them because she trusts you.

Step 4. A relative step to the inner band nerd, but you find attraction in the new light board operator. Or maybe it's the person who helped you build a 7 foot by 6 foot flat the other day.

Step 5. Waking up early saturday mornings isn't that bad when you find yourself heading out of your house to go back behind the stage where everything seems to be happening. Even if it is long hours, techies still have fun.

Step 6. One of the more obvious signs, you are carrying spare parts in your pockets. A couple nails here, a couple screws and bolts there. Hey, you have to be prepared for when your on the job and someone needs something.

Step 7. You get excited and proud whenever you pass testing on a power tool. You feel like a true techie when you feel the power of the Miter Saw cutting through a piece of lumber that needs to be cut to 5 and a half inches.

Step 8. Another thing you can't help. Paint. Is. Everywhere. On your shoes, in your hair, running done your brush and onto your hand. And the continuous washing just doesn't seem to be doing any good. After long last, you are just making it a new style.

Step 9. When people ask what your hobbie is, you are starting to respond "I like to build things." Ah, a classic sign. Maybe all those hours using the Miter Saw and the drill have finally got to you.

Step 10. The sun burns. After hours working on the show in artificial light, your eyes welcome the sun with shiny pointy teeth. The sun doesn't help you, it burns you.

Not as good as my first one, but I like it. I took a lot longer to construct than the first one.

Author's Comments

'Techie' is a world that comes from 'technical' in the phrase 'technical theatre' meaning some one is on the technical side of a play, etc. Sorry for the really boring explaination of it all. But like my band nerd steps, these are the steps showing you if you a true techie. - Second in the series of showing your inners -

this is good, especially since it isnt an excerpt from the techie bible. I would like to see you go back over it again and clean up some of the typos and grammatical inconsistencies.

You forgot "Techies date techies...if you're dating a techie, it's likely that you are one, with or witout knowing it"

I got a good laugh out of this =D
